Meditation – It’s Power

meditation6A powerful pattern for self-realization, self-development, introspection, self-heal…. the list of takeaway from constant practice of meditation is endless. A lot has been written, spoken, preached and today you are about to receive another article on this subject. You could hit the delete button and move on, or, just stop for a moment and check out another perspective of why there is so much attention directed at this subject called MEDITATION.

My purpose for putting pen to paper on this topic, primarily stems from the cries of participants, mentee, coaches, peers, friends, and relatives on how to better handle certain aspects of their life – personal & professional. It is even more interesting how the unconscious or to some the sub-conscious mind directs through signs for this to happen. Following my training sessions conducted last week, I found there was a need to further address the subject of Meditation. All through the week there were signs – a distress phone call for help -where state change was created through breathing & meditation, a meditation article in a magazine, a Facebook post on meditation, so much so that I thought, let me pen a few words on my perspective of meditation. My first encounter with meditation, my feeling about it then and how over time this changed my thinking and how today, I look at the subject of meditation as a healing process for the mental & physical well-being of a person.

“When the man / women is right inside…… The world will be right…….” a powerful true statement.

I grew up in the 70’s & 80’s where at social gatherings, meditation was spoken off, particularly at student parties, community discussions on campus and elsewhere…. The after mart of Hippie Era. So, if you did not know or speak about it in those environment, you were not “hip”. I would snub and shun away from those communique, primarily because all I related about the subject was, it was practiced by hippie, “drugie”, meditation5long haired groupies, that talked of meditation, pyramids and crystals. They would talk of meditation under a man-made pyramid structure in their lounge. My conclusion… what a bunch of weirdos. Today, on reflection I wondered how closed and narrow minded, my perspective was of these people, more than that, how bigoted I was about the subject of meditation. Little did I know / understand the implications of this practice, what it does and can do for a person.

With time, my whole outlook of the subject had changed, through exposure, education and self-practice of meditation. Today, with a bit more understanding, exposure, learning, experience and practice, I see meditation as the best remedy for many dysfunctional behavior & life pattern changes, that we as human beings can benefit, if we practice meditation regularly.

Mediation as such, is a vast topic. I would not do justice in addressing the topic of meditation in one blog. I will in this blog, just whet your appetite and provide a brief to this subject, with the hope that you get a feel of what it is and what it can do for your holistic well-being. In my future blogs, I will further share my perspective of what it does, how to meditate, why we need to practice it especially in today’s environment, and what are its outcomes.

Interesting enough, today when I share this concept to many, a percent of the audience, still looks at me with skepticism…. In response, rather than argue, defend or justify the benefits out of meditating, my inner self directs me to understand…. “When the student is ready, the teacher will arrive”… just as it happened to me. So we just move on, with the hope that the individual will follow the sizzle, and in time, commence on the practice and enjoy the outcome… of meditation of self-betterment.

The Base of Meditation

Vedanta Philosophy explains what a mental process meditation is, and goes on to say, concentration (Sanskrit – Dharana) is the base stage of this process. With continuous practice, this concentration becomes effortless and continuous, thereby progressing to the state of meditation (dhyana). The mind is ready to flow continuously to the required objective. The culmination of this process is total absorption (Samadhi). Put basically, this is the journey one would take in the practice of meditation: Concentration / Meditation / Absorption or in Sanskrit, Dharana / Dhyana / Samadhi

Meditation & Concentration

Today meditation to some, is understood as deep concentration (laser beam) on an object. Indirectly what this means, everyone mediates 24/7, as we concentrate a lot daily on almost everything, from survival to success in life. It’s through the power of concentration that we activate our five physical sense, visual, auditory, kinestitic, olfactory and gastro (VAKOG). Though concentration the mind acquires the quality of lens to absorb the knowledge on the subject. Meditation is the gateway of learning for the outer and inner world of our self.

Meditation & Reflective Reasoning

Reasoning is when a person achieves a clear logical understanding of things / issues etc. Meditation is a perception of that. Reasoning stems from the head, while mediation is heart driven, the home of our spirit.

Meditation & Contemplation

During the process of Contemplation many spend time reflecting, some take it to the stage of reflection through to the supreme being within oneself their spirit (or God for many). Meditation is more than contemplation, it’s the flow of the mind towards it. Akin this to a bee, buzzing around a flower waiting to rest on the flower and sip the nectar. The state of meditation is when the bee is rested on the flower and tasting the sweet nectar.

Meditation & Prayer

There is a distinction between prayer and meditation. Prayer is directed to a personal divine spirit. Meditation begins with effort, but ends with the absorption into the spirit within oneself … images concepts, techniques, patterns are all stepping stones in this journey. Best reflection of this is… we PRAYER (communicate) to God, and while we are in MEDITATION we listen to the soundless spirit (God) within us, which brings us in union with that spirit.

In my future blogs, I will cover the following aspects of mediation:

Meditation a technique to gain mastery over the mind, by cultivating a single thought.
Meditation is a natural necessity for the soul, and to provide the mind with rest and rejuvenation
Meditation, like music with relevant pauses extenuates the sound of the music….
Meditation awakens the dormant power of the mind

To provide a scientific understanding of meditation, and if done properly what are its outcomes and healing powers to man, I refer you to the video link below titles, the scientific power of meditation.

Person’s Goals reveals his Character

One of our Guest Bloggers perspective:  Goals reveal’s a person’s charater …….

Goals Character1It is that time of the year. Some are wondering how 2013 passed by very quickly. Some are reflecting on how effectively they spent the last year. How much have they grown or how much are they lagging behind their expectations. Some are busy jotting down their goals for 2014. Some are unaffected. Years come and go; they choose to go with the flow.

Anyway, if you have planned goals for this year, I have something important to share with you. Even if you do not have specific goals for the course of this year, we all want something at every point in life. Most of us are wired that way.

Do you give enough thought on what you truly want to do? Or are you just playing around. For example, there are people wanting to learn guitar because they think it is cool to play a guitar. There are people wanting to hit the gym because their neighbours seem divinely motivated to work out. There are people who travel so that they brag about their experiences to others. Is this your definition of setting goals? Or are you being fair to yourself and to life and are accountable for it?

A person’s goals reveals a lot about his character, his deepest desires, his longings and what he feels to be his purpose in life. Let us peek into the process of goal setting.

  1.      You get into deep introspection.
  2.      You set a goal.
  3.      You reach out for the required resources.
  4.      You get into the process of achieving it.
  5.      You are brave enough to ask for required help.
  6.      You reach it.
  7.      You are not the same person that you were at the step one.Goals mossion value

Now, it is not the fulfilment of the goal that brings joy. Real joy is when you look back and see how much you have grown internally in the process. How much it has altered and moulded your personality. How far have you reached in becoming what you want to be. What kind of person were you when you began and what are you at the end. Fulfilment of the goal gets you high temporarily but it is this realization that brings you joy that doesn’t fade away with time, it becomes a part of you and becomes one of the many things that define you. So goals are very personal for they have the capability to strike chords in your deep inside.

What happens when you do not resonate with your goal? You might give up for the smallest of obstacles. You might not feel empowered enough to reach the destination. Your focus might shift and you might not want to achieve it any longer. You might hate yourself for fooling around. Waste of time and effort, isn’t it?

David Nair taught me how to set the right goals. I ask myself questions like why am I doing this? Where did I get this desire from? What does this mean to me deeply? How is this related to the entity that I am in the inside?  Will it bring out my capabilities and let go of my limitations? Will this help me evolve to become that that I want to be? Ask questions that mean to you goals who U becomepersonally. Reflect on what, why, when of it, the universe will take care of the how. And you would be amazed to see how you just flow through the entire process crossing the obstacles, overcoming the limitations, effortlessly.

“Matter is a manifestation of Thought” – BUDDHA

prepbuddha restingMost of us work very hard, toil through the day on routine operations and wonder why we are where we are? Why is life not treating me right? I am putting as much effort but do not seem to just get above it all? Why is he/she so much more luckier? What is happening to me?  Some go to the extent …. Why has God forsaken me?

PLEASE STOP… STOP… STOP…

The strength of the effort is the measure of the result. Circumstance does not make the person, instead it reveals the person.

This is not the effort of work, the energy dissipated from one run to the next run of tasks…. Though they are important, but not vital. What is it then?

The effort put in crystallizing that “Padi Field” in our mind. How have we cultivated that field? Have we nurtured it, if so how well and how regularly? Are there weeds in that field? What type of weeds? Some are deep rooted, which creates the type of person we are, the habits we have, the behavior we have, the look of the world we have… All this from that little field …. The mindthought mainfestation

What have we done to remove those weeds? What are we doing to prepare that “Padi Field”? How are we preparing that “Padi Field” The strength comes from that preparedness of the mind. What have we really doing to prepare it? What are we doing daily to feed it? What are we doing to protect it from the birds and the bees? This is especially so where in some cultures our relatives care so much for us that they live our life’s of us? Do they know how to infuse into us that required fertilizer? In a lot of these cases the answer is a resounding NO. Then just be polite to them and in your own way say “SHUT UP” “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”

The question is what do we do then?

Just go back to your own self, through introspection, silence and some who have moved to the next level Meditation, ….. seek from within the answer.

Believe that it will come from within…

As I have always said “Prayer is our conversation with God and Meditation is God’s conversation with us.”

A chatter box mind will not resolve this ….. A quite, Calm, Cool Collected mind sitting in silence for the solution… This is the strength that comes from preparedness of the mind that will deliver what we want. When there is congruence between what is within and what we want, it polarizes and draws the required energy to pave for that manifestation of that thought. As Buddha say, “Matter is a manifestation of Thought”mind manifestation

This is what and how most if not all our Gurus have worked through in achieving their fulfillment. The same applies with us mere mortals.

I hope this food for thought has provided that digestion for Self Achievement.
